We Are a Part of the Nation-Building Process

Benjamin Cheuk Yan Kin

Senior Manager (Projects)

Benjamin’s interest in civil engineering sparked during his teen years. His relatives had presence in the industry and he would lap up opportunities to work in their offices. For the young Benjamin, he became attuned to the excitement; every decision made had a direct impact on others.

This passion has remained fervent even after all these years. Today, Benjamin is a Senior Project Manager. He joined Straits Construction in 2005, motivated by the company’s vision to raise the industry’s safety and quality standards. It was not just about cost-cutting measures. “Management walks the talk by allocating adequate resources and giving us support.” He gets to assemble a team for each project; a team with the strengths and talent to meet client benchmarks and deadlines.

When he sees the residents’ smiles when the units are first unveiled, it is worth the hard work. To Benjamin, a timely handover of units means that his fellow Singaporeans can begin their family planning early. “In many ways, we are a part of the nation-building process.”

Benjamin’s most defining moment was the completion of Casa Clementi. He was at the helm from the very beginning till the sweet end. These days, taking in the view while perched on the 40th floor evokes surrealism for him. He enjoys frequenting the playgrounds with his children too.

This epochal project also made history: Straits Construction received the first-ever HDB Construction Award (Distinguished) and HDB became the first Singapore recipient to receive the Distinguished Project Award conferred by the renowned Project Management Institute. Proud and precious moments like these are why Benjamin thinks he has made the right choice in joining Straits Construction.
