Straits is pleased to be invited by CR(S) to participate in their Artitude+ event on 22 November 2015. At this event, we saw many beneficiaries display their talents in photography, drawing and constructing Lego models. Guest of Honour (GOH), Denise Phua Lay Peng, Mayor, Central Singapore District, was present to grace the event, officiate the opening of the renovated premises by painting on the mural wall with the major contributors.

The renovation of the premises marks the first time that Straits had helped a charity to revamp their premises. It will also not be the last, being that Straits is a staunch believer in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

The revamped premises will be able to provide one conducive environment at CR(S) for their staffs and beneficiaries to grow and develop. To grace this event, Straits made a financial donation to further develop CR(S) capabilities to take care of the less fortunate ones. During the GOH’s speech, Straits is on the same page where we will not leave anyone behind and ensure all forge ahead together.

Straits Construction’s pursuit of quality excellence was demonstrated by our project team’s efforts to achieve high standards of quality for their BTO project - Yishun Greenwalk. The project achieved an excellent CONQUAS score of 94.4 and is the highest for Public Housing under the CONQUAS 7th edition.

Good project management skills from the start had instilled the team with the desire for quality excellence and a sense of pride in their work, have a strong safety culture and in delivering good customer satisfaction. Our emphasis on the importance of “doing it right the first time” to achieve the high quality standards of quality has been realized. Besides regular checks, we had our dedicated in-house quality teams to carry out additional comprehensive and systematic checks prior to handing over inspections.

The project team had proposed many initiatives including the conversion of roof screen wall canopies from cast in-situ to precast ones to eliminate the need to erect external scaffold and the use of mesh reinforcement instead of loose steel bars to improve productivity. The project had also received several awards including the SCAL WSH Innovation Award 2014 and the UK-based ROSPA Achievement Award 2014.

The team had clear objectives to ensure that the safety of workers was as important as the delivery of the project. High priority was placed by the project team to provide a safe working environment. The project had accumulated 2 million accident-free man-hours and this was celebrated with HDB and MOM as part of the launch of the HDB Safety Promotion Campaign 2013.

During the defects liability period, the team promptly responded to feedback and had received several letters of commendation and verbal affirmation for the good service accorded.
