A Beacon in Mixed Development

The Royal Square located at Novena is the first mixed development project for Straits Construction. A prestigious and rare offering in the bustling Novena precinct, it is both challenging and exciting as the iconic project houses 2 floors of retail, 3 floors of car parks, 16 floors of medical suites and 10 floors of 250 hotel rooms, within a single tower block.

Amidst a vibrant community which includes residential areas, hospitals, churches and office complexes, we are mindful of the challenges in keeping inconveniences and disruptions to a minimum. We communicate regularly with various groups in the community, and we take great pains to reduce obstruction and allay any fears of human safety or possible danger in vehicle traffic. The Novena MRT station is located beside the site and great care has to be taken to prevent any impact on the rail services.

Some challenges were out of the blue, like the subterranean hard rock formation which posed a hiccup to our piling works. However, we still managed to complete the piling within 6 months, driving in more than 157 piles. Because retail, medical and hospitality services require different floor layouts, our team has to design and construct the various floors to accommodate the diverse layouts, challenging our conceptual and technical capabilities. Proper planning for material and concrete deliveries was important due to the constant heavy traffic along Thomson and Irrawaddy Roads. Putting our heads together to objectively promote environmental and water sustainability for the development has led us to win the BCA Green Mark Platinum Award in 2014.
